It's 2040, and it worked.
Tomorrow & Co. is an experiential learning programme that starts with a time jump. In facilitated sessions, students, teams and communities step into an India where factories run on energy made from their own waste, neighbours trade solar power across their rooftops, and women walk home safely after dark. Then they come back to today and start the ventures and initiatives that made it happen.
I call this urgent optimism, because the problems are real and so are the opportunities inside them.
The premise
Future tense to future perfect.
People work towards the futures they can picture, so every session starts by imagining optimistic ones in detail and then gets to work on them. These scenes put the present we live in beside the 2040 we can build.
How it works
Jump forward, look back, then build.
-
Jump forward
Participants step into 2040 in their own city, neighbourhood or industry, and draw, write and act it out until it feels real.
-
Look back
From 2040, they ask what had to exist for it to happen. Each answer becomes a What If question.
-
Build
Teams turn the strongest What Ifs into ventures or initiatives, with a business model that counts social, environmental and financial returns.
The method
One method in four parts, used together.
- F
Futures thinking
Which 2040 do we want?
- S
Systems thinking
What holds today in place?
- D
Design thinking
What do people actually need?
- B
Business thinking
Will it last?
- AI
AI
Runs through all four, for faster research, mapping and prototypes.
Who it's for
Students step into their region's 2040 and leave with a venture concept, a business model canvas and their work on show at an exhibition.
For colleges & schools
Teams step into their market's 2040 and come back with new diversifications, products or operations to take to leadership.
For companies
Foundations and industry associations take their community and members to 2040 and come back with initiatives to build it.
For communitiesOutcomes
What participants leave with
Every group leaves with a venture or initiative, the work behind it and an exhibition to show it at.
Formats
Three ways to run it.
Half-day
Half a dayA time jump and a first look at the ventures 2040 needs.
Works as a class session, a leadership team meeting or a club meeting.
One day
A full dayThe full arc, from 2040 back to today, ending in an exhibition.
Works as a campus workshop, a team offsite or a community visioning day.
Multi-session
5 sessionsOne session for each way of thinking, then an exhibition.
Works as a semester module, an innovation sprint or a project incubator for a club or ward.
I shape every programme around your group, from the place of the time jump to the problems in focus and the format.
Facilitator
Hello, I'm Tarun Durga.
I'm a strategic designer based in Mumbai, with 25 years across Deloitte Digital, Dentsu and founder-led ventures. I've led design thinking and futures work at Deloitte India, Merkle and ECube, and co-founded Earth Inherited, a sustainability platform built with ECube and the Indian Express Group.
I've run design and strategy workshops for Deloitte India, Aditya Birla Group, ECube India and FICCI. Lately, that work has turned toward tech for good: AI for renewable energy, low-carbon digital design, and nature-based programmes for schools and companies.
A Masters in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins shaped how I teach, and Tomorrow & Co. brings those methods to students, teams and communities.
